Finding insurance for trailers is a perennial problem.  Most car insurance policies (but not all) will cover an attached trailer for third party risks only but this will not cover any damage to your trailer in an accident, any incident where the trailer is detached from the towing vehicle, nor any loss of the trailer through theft etc.

Many people have contacted us enquiring how to get comprehensive insurance for their trailer as it is very difficult to obtain – so some years ago we set up such a policy with a large London broker, Towergate Hall & Clarke, who still manage the policy underwritten by AXA Insurance.

A requirement is to fit two security devices when the trailer is left unattended - a hitchlock and a wheel clamp tested to TUV, RDW or Sold Secure standards. This gives a wide choice of device from your trailer centre.
